Identity Function

An Identity Function or a Linear Function in which the output remains the same as the input.

x: an input data point

Range:

#Identity Fucntion
def Identity(x):
    '''
    Parameters:
        x (real number) input data point
    Returns:
        x
    '''
    return x

Use cases:

Used to build simple neural architectures.

Pros:

Less computational power.

Ideal for model interpretability.

Cons:

Since it is a linear function, the neural network model can’t find complex or non-linear patterns in the data. Even when the network is stacked up with multiple layers of neurons, the network will still be a linear model.
